November 2004 Sweeps Poster
For those not in the world of television, the term sweeps may still be a familiar one. Despite this familiarity with the term, however, some may still not be exactly clear what it actually means. Without going into any real specifics, there are four months of the year that special attention is paid to ratings. Those months are February, May, July, and November, and generally, any day during those months is considered to be during sweeps.
Former KMTV General Manager Jim McKernan wanted Christian to design posters to be placed throughout the station during sweeps which encouraged employees to try and top the station’s performance the previous year. From that, Christian hit upon the idea of taking different personnel at KMTV and placing them in famous propaganda posters. This particular poster re-creates co-anchor Deb Ward as Rosie the Riveter. If anybody exemplified “We Can Do It!” at KMTV, it was definitely Deb Ward.
